Marine podcast, 11 2009

This week we share cameraman Grant Brokensha's best moments.

He begins by diving in the clear waters of the iconic Jellyfish Lake on the island of Palau in Micronesia. Here millions of jellyfish move across the surface of the water every day, following the arc of the sun.

Barry Skinstad joins Grant in a search for beautiful manta rays. They find three individuals circling as they filter-feed in the plankton-rich waters.

We end off this marine podcast with a rare and privileged sighting of a fossil-like nautilus propelling itself through the water.

We begin the week by exploring the shallow waters of a mangrove forest where tiny fish swim in and out of an intricate network of mangrove roots.

We then spend time with two large cuttlefish and observe their fascinating behavior.

We end off the week with a night dive facilitated by a change in tides. Our marine team is captivated by some really interesting and different marine behavior under cover of darkness.

Then it's off to the Knysna Lagoon in South Africa's Eastern Cape province, where Barry again does film duty to bring us enchanting footage of the delicate creatures that inhabit this world-famous estuary, from the sea hare to the seahorse.

In Sodwana Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, there’s an abundance of marine life and Grant Brokensha has captured some of the most interesting species to share with us, including round ribbontail rays, an octopus and beautiful but venomous devil firefish.
