      <description>

This week's question comes from Violet, who wants to know how to sew elastic without ending up with a clump of tangled yarn on the backside. In this video I go over three different ways to sew elastic neatly and headache-free.

      <title>CRAFT Video: Machine-Knitted QR Code Scarf</title>
      <link>http://vodcast.gmx.net/channel/view/435-make/62744</link>
      <description>

I used my computerized knitting machine to make this QR code (2D barcode) scarf. You can turn any text into a QR code at qrcode.kaywa.com, and use that image as a pattern for knitting. You need neither Photoshop nor a knitting machine to make this project; they just make it significantly easier. When finished, anyone can take a picture of my scarf and get the information stored in the code as text on their screen, and it's stylish, too! <title>Ask CRAFT: Plying Yarn</title>
      <link>http://vodcast.gmx.net/channel/view/435-make/61559</link>
      <description>

When I posted about the amazing yarn I customized at Yarnia in Portland, OR, I got a lot of questions about plying yarn. At Yarnia the yarn is wound together from many "singles," or individual strands of yarn to make up one unit, but the strands remain individual, making it a little more difficult to work with than plied yarn. I asked one of my professors, fibers artist Jerry Bleem, if he could teach my class how to ply yarn, or twist the singles together into a single strand, and in this video he does just that. Plied yarn is also much easier to work with on a knitting machine than non-plied yarn because there's less of a chance of one of the individual fibers catching where it's not supposed to. If you have a crafty question, send it on over to me at becky@craftzine.com for use in a future installment of Ask CRAFT! <title>CRAFT Video: Paper Making with Lisa Jacobs</title>
      <link>http://vodcast.gmx.net/channel/view/435-make/60809</link>
      <description>

At the last Phoenix DIY meeting, art teacher and avid crafter Lisa Jacobs ran a paper making workshop. We learned how to use recycled office paper as the base for art papers, to which we added colored napkins for pigment and dried flowers, glitter, conductive thread, and many others as "inclusions," the things that jazz up the paper inside and out. With some simple supplies, this is a really easy, fun, and kid friendly project. Thanks to Conspire Phoenix for hosting!
