Just 10 dogs soon have the herd of 200 buffalo on the stampede. A young bull is keen to play the game but soon loses his nerve. AND the pack have successfully killed a waterbuck against the fence. The pack are keen to get to Jiggy but Jiggy is keen to get to the waterbuck. With the fence blocking their natural movement I cut a hole and drag the carcass through. The dogs are still reluctant to cross but slowly slowly they all make it back. The wildebeest weren't too perturbed and were happy to play the game although at times it got a little tense when horns nearly clashed with predator. But this never deterred the pups who kept coming back for more action. The chase was on and when I caught up with the dogs they'd already killed an adult male impala. I was soon out the vehicle moving around them filming them on the kill, up close and personal. At less than 10m away they were quite happy to have me around! But now a couple of hyaenas had barged in. The dogs took the fight to them but not too aggressively as they were already well fed. But with each little tit bit the hyaenas took, the dogs ran in to nip them on the backside, with the hyaenas already squealing in anticipation of each nip. The wild dogs have killed a kudu calf that came playing with his friend towards them. When the pups ran at them the kudu stood wondering what this was. The pups were bewildered that they didn't run and were unsure what to do. But when the kudu did turn to run this one wasn't so lucky. Is it worth the risk they seem to ask? Crocodiles in the waiting. They move up and down the river searching for the perfect crossing point and then suddenly make the mad dash to cross. Successful!
